Carrara marble is one of the Tuscan excellences. Let’s see some curiosities about marble, for example why it is so famous in the world and what is special about it? What are its types and how is it best to choose it? Where to find it and who to contact?

For my discovery of marble I turned to a company with more than thirty years of experience in the sector, Namco co SRL which deals with the sale of blocks, slabs, products in marble, granite, onyx, stones of various type and travertine, brought to Italy from various countries of the world.

History of Carrara marble: one of the Tuscan excellences

To begin with, let’s see some history. The history of Carrara marble is very ancient and dates back to Roman times when the first marble monument by Polvaccio was sculpted. Carrara cables since ancient times attracted the attention of foreign markets, in fact in 1876 in Forte dei Marmi the first marina was built for the transport of marble from Carrara. But the Italian market was also interested in marble, thanks to which we have such a beautiful and rich history of art. For example we see the Tuscan beauties such as the Baptistery of Florence, the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore and the Giottesco Bell Tower, the Florentine basilicas of Santa Croce and Santa Maria Novella, the Cathedral and the Baptistery of Pisa, the Duomo of Siena ect. Thanks to these beauties, Italy attracts millions of tourists every year.

The types of Carrara marble.

Statuarietto – the background generally tends to gray which crosses the veins.

Statuario – the particularly white background, which is very bright, and has subtle gold and gray veins.

Callacata – the warm white background, soft and nuanced veins, ranging from light yellow to gray, sometimes tending to green and purple.

Bianco Carrara – the white background with uniform and homogeneous shades and the presence of gray veins, is fine-grained with the possibility of the presence of pyrite crystals.

Bianco Gioia – The base is basically pure white and is characterized by a less hard structure than the Bianco Carrara

Namco Marble Company

Thanks to its high professionalism, many years of experience, numerous contacts with Italian and foreign agents, the company managed to master the Italian, and later many foreign markets. During its activity the company has participated in the realization of large construction projects, interior and exterior decoration of hotels, palaces, private villas, public structures, trying to best satisfy the requests of the most demanding architects and designers.

At Namco SRL you will also find other stones such as:

  • Daino Reale
  • Arabescato Bianco
  • Arabescato Grigio Orobico

Now all you have to do is pay a visit to the Cavi di Marmo and my advice is to go to Colonnata to taste the lard, which is made from lard, aged in pools of Carrara marble.
